Your website looks really cool! I am a first year college student doing research about classroom diversity and your page came up first. It was really informative and the implications for teachers are spot on. I really love how each focus subject has different tips and strategies we can use to provide a safe and inclusive environment for the students. I never realised that race and ethnicity are two different things, so thank you diversityplus for explaining that and also giving some facts and percentage about diversity in Australia. The additional videos and resources are really great and expanded my knowledge not just about ethnicity and race but also about sex/gender and ability/disability. Thanks again diversityplus!

Wow what a website! I absolutely love it. I am a principle of a primary school and many of my staff have improved their teaching practises in order to be more inclusive within their classrooms. My staff have now been informed about particular ways to include students, especially students with disabilities. After wondering around the classrooms, staff have had a positive attitude towards supporting diversity in the school environment.

Thanks for your help diversityplus!

I came across your website and I was amazed by how much helpful information there was. I am a grade 6 teacher and I learnt many ways in which I can be inclusive within my classroom. There is one student in my class who is in a wheelchair and after reading your website, I am now mindful about the language I use when speaking to the class as a whole. For example, I use to say to my students “everyone please stand up to move outside”, however I know say “everyone please move outside”. This website allowed me to realise that as a teacher, the language I use within my classroom is very important to ensure that everyone feels included in the classroom. Thanks diversityplus!

Hi diversityplus!

I am a pre-service teacher and stumbled upon your website. You guys really helped me in creating activities that are inclusive and culturally safe in the classroom. I also started saying the acknowledgement of country every morning before I start my class. We have an assembly this coming friday, my students and I created hand movements so that we can say the acknowledgement of country in a creative way. I encourage other teachers to do the same! I also read a story book to the class that relates to Indigenous culture that I want to share with you all. Thought this might be helpful for other teachers to introduce Indigenous history and culture! The book is called Mad Magpie by Gregg Dreiss. Thanks Diversityplus!

Creative wall poster!

As an new teacher, I spent hours wondering “how can I show students, parents and other teachers that I am inclusive of all genders, sexualities and promote gender equality?” Finally, I came to a conclusion and simply placed this poster on a wall near my desk! Great discussions have arisen since placing this in my classroom, and it has given me the opportunity to explain to the children that people of all genders can dress and behave in any way they chose, regardless of socially constructed stereotypes. The children have had a shift in views, and I’ve even heard them saying “men can wear dresses if they want, just the same was as women can wear pants.” This has then led to the children discussing gender neutral toilets, as the female and male icons reminded them of those they see on public toilets and even their school toilets. I highly recommend this to all teachers!

The best idea yet! 🏳️‍🌈

Hi DiversityPlus,
Just wanted to thank you for providing information about the pride flag! I have been wondering for a while how I can let students know I am accepting of all gender and sexuality choices, and am available for a chat if they ever need, but wasn’t sure how I could communicate this. After reading your site, I realised it was as simple as putting a sticker of the flag on the corner of my desk!!!
Already, I have had 2 students mention this subtle inclusion, and another student has since confided in me with their feelings and concerns. I strongly advise all teachers adopt this technique, as it has made such a huge difference in my classroom already!
Thank you, thank you and thank you again! :))
